RedStripe Cordless Power Tools – Warranty Terms and Conditions

Plain-language summary appears within sections for transparency. If any clause seems to conflict with the summary, the formal clause governs. This warranty applies to RedStripe cordless power tools only.

1. Warranty Period and Territorial Application

  • 1.1 The warranty period is 6 (six) months from the original date of purchase, as indicated on a valid proof of purchase (invoice or receipt).
  • 1.2 This warranty applies only to RedStripe cordless power tools purchased from Würth South Africa or its authorised resellers and used within the Republic of South Africa.
  • 1.3 The warranty is granted to the original purchaser and is non transferable, except where required by applicable consumer law.
  • 1.4 If a product is replaced under this warranty, the original 6 month period continues; it does not restart unless a written exception is issued by Würth South Africa.
  • 1.5 Demonstration units, samples, or pilot units may carry different terms if expressly stated in writing at the time of supply.

Plain-language: 6 months from purchase, valid in South Africa for the original buyer. Replacement does not restart the clock

2. Definitions

  • 2.1 “Manufacturing defect”: A fault caused by factory error, defective materials, or incorrect assembly—not misuse, wear, or environmental exposure.
  • 2.2 “Normal, intended use”: Operation per the user manual and specification sheet, with compatible accessories, and within the tool’s rated capacity and duty cycle.
  • 2.3 “Wear items”: Components that naturally degrade in normal operation (e.g., brushes, bearings, seals, chucks, switches).
  • 2.4 “Overload”: Operation beyond the tool’s rated capacity/duty cycle causing thermal or mechanical stress.
  • 2.5 “Unauthorised repair/modification”: Opening, adjustment, repair, or alteration by non Würth personnel or the user.
  • 2.6 “DOA” (dead on arrival): Product fails to operate correctly on first use out of the box.

3. Scope of Warranty Coverage (Manufacturing Defects Only)

  • 3.1 This warranty covers material and factory defects only. Examples include:
    • Electrical failures (early life): faulty wiring, trigger defects, bad solder joints.
    • Motor faults: failures due to incorrect assembly (not abuse or overload).
    • Structural defects: brittle or malformed housings without impact marks.
    • Early component failure: switches or electronics failing in the first months due to factory issues.
    • Battery/charger DOA defects: only if reported within 7 days of purchase (contractual DOA remedy).
  • 3.2 Coverage applies only when:
    • The failure is early and clearly linked to factory workmanship or defective materials.
    • The tool has not been used in heavy duty or commercial environments beyond its intended rating.
    • The tool has been operated per the manual, within duty cycles, and with compatible accessories.

Plain-language: Covers factory faults that show up early. Misuse, overload, impact, or contamination are not covered

4. Conditions Precedent to Warranty Validity

To maintain warranty validity, all of the following must be met:

  • 4.1 Registration: Register the product after purchase via Würth’s official channels.
  • 4.2 Care and maintenance: Keep the tool clean; avoid extended heavy load usage and allow cooldown intervals.
  • 4.3 Environmental protection: Do not expose the tool to dust, mud, moisture, or corrosive environments; store dry.
  • 4.4 Return completeness: Return the tool complete with proof of purchase and all accessories for assessment.
  • 4.5 Serial integrity: Serial numbers, labels, and identifiers must be intact and legible.
  • 4.6 Accessories: Use only compatible accessories and bits as specified in the manual.

5. Exclusions – What Is Not Covered

This warranty does not cover:

  • Wear and tear or parts worn from normal use (e.g., brushes, bearings, seals, chucks, switches).
  • Overload or misuse, including operation beyond rated capacity and duty cycle.
  • Dust/mud/moisture damage, corrosion, or contamination of electronics.
  • Impact/drop damage: cracked housings, visible impact zones, forced components, deformation.
  • Incorrect accessories or bits causing strain or damage.
  • Missing registration or lack of proof of purchase (administrative requirement for warranty processing).*
  • Unauthorised opening, repair, or modification of the tool or batteries.
  • Cosmetic damage (scratches, dents) not affecting functionality.
  • Extreme environments: corrosive chemicals, conductive debris, immersion, or severe temperatures.
  • Grey imports/counterfeit products not sourced through Würth South Africa.

**Note: Under the CPA, where proof of purchase is unavailable, other lawful evidence of transaction may suffice; see Section 11.**

Plain-language: Normal wear, misuse/overload, contamination, impact, wrong accessories, missing proof, and tampering are excluded.

6. Warranty Remedies

  • 6.1 If a claim is approved, Würth South Africa will, at its discretion:
    • Repair the product; or
    • Replace the product with the same or equivalent model.
  • 6.2 Refunds are not provided under this contractual warranty unless required by law (e.g., CPA where repair or replacement is not feasible within a reasonable time).
  • 6.3 Replacement may be with new or service exchange/refurbished parts meeting original specifications.
  • 6.4 The remedy is limited to the product itself; no coverage for indirect costs (downtime, loss of production, transport not expressly agreed, etc.).
  • 6.5 Repaired/replaced items continue under the original 6 month period (see 1.4).

Plain-language: We repair or replace if covered; refunds only where the law requires and no compensation for indirect losses.

7. Warranty Claim Process

  • 7.1 Initiation: Contact your nearest Würth South Africa branch or authorised service centre.
  • 7.2 Documentation: Provide proof of purchase, tool serial number, and a description of the fault, including operating conditions and accessories used.
  • 7.3 Return condition: Return the complete tool (and batteries/charger where relevant), reasonably clean, for technical assessment.
  • 7.4 Inspection: Würth technicians will diagnose whether the fault is a manufacturing defect and whether all conditions in Section 4 are satisfied.
  • 7.5 Outcome: You will be notified in writing of approval or rejection with reasons.
  • 7.6 Turnaround: Times vary; reasonable efforts will be made to expedite.
  • 7.7 Costs: Approved claims may have reasonable inbound shipping covered at Würth’s discretion; rejected claims may incur assessment/transport costs.

Plain-language: Log a claim with proof and the tool; we inspect and confirm. Approved claims are repaired or replaced.

8. Specific Notes: Batteries and Chargers

  • 8.1 Batteries
    • RedStripe tools must be used with compatible batteries per the manual.
    • Runtime reduction over time is normal ageing and not covered.
    • Physical damage, swelling, deep discharge/misuse, or contamination is excluded.
  • 8.2 Chargers
    • Use compatible RedStripe chargers only.
    • DOA chargers/batteries: Report within 7 calendar days of purchase for an immediate contractual DOA remedy (swap or replacement). Beyond 7 days, claims are handled under the standard 6 month warranty and/or CPA rights where applicable.
    • Damage from power surges, incorrect voltage supply, dust/liquid ingress, or non compliant adapters is excluded.

Plain-language: Immediate DOA swap is limited to 7 days. After that, normal warranty/CPA processes apply.

9. User Responsibilities (Clarity to Prevent Misuse)

To avoid damage and ensure proper use:

  • Read and follow the user manual and safety instructions.
  • Observe duty cycles and rated capacities; allow cooling intervals.
  • Use correct bits/accessories; avoid binding, stalling, or excessive torque.
  • Keep ventilation clear; avoid metal dust and liquids; store dry.
  • Do not open, alter, or repair the tool/battery yourself.
  • Keep proof of purchase and maintain serial labels intact.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • • Würth South Africa’s liability under this warranty is limited to repair or replacement of the product.
  • • Würth is not liable for indirect or consequential losses (downtime, loss of profits, business interruption).
  • • Nothing in this warranty limits rights or remedies that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer protection laws.

11. Interaction with Consumer Rights (CPA)

This warranty operates in addition to any non-xcludable statutory rights applicable to consumers under South African law. Where a conflict exists, statutory consumer rights prevail to the extent required by law.

Plain-language: Your legal consumer rights still apply. This warranty sits alongside those rights.

12. Evidence and Assessment Standards

Technical assessment may consider objective indicators of:

  • Overload: thermal discolouration, armature/commutator damage, melted plastics near heat zones, gear tooth spall consistent with shock loading.
  • Impact/drop: cracked housings with external marks, misaligned frames, fractured mounts, stress patterns consistent with shock.
  • Dust/liquid ingress: corrosion on PCB, conductive debris, residue trails, contamination inconsistent with normal sealed operation.
  • Unauthorised repair/modification: broken seals, non original parts, altered firmware/software (where applicable).

Plain-language: We look for clear signs of overload, impact, contamination, or tampering.

13. Grey Imports, Counterfeits, and Altered Products

Products not purchased through Würth South Africa or authorised resellers, counterfeit items, or products with altered serials/labels are not covered. Proof of origin may be requested.

14. Professional/Commercial Use

RedStripe tools are intended for light to medium duty consumer use unless otherwise specified. Heavy duty or commercial use beyond specification constitutes misuse/overload and is not covered.

Plain-language: Using the tool continuously in commercial heavy duty settings beyond its rating is misuse.

15. Data Protection and Records

Personal information collected for warranty processing will be used solely for claim handling, service, quality, and compliance and stored in accordance with applicable data protection requirements.

16. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

This warranty is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Disputes may be addressed through Würth’s internal resolution process and, if necessary, through competent South African courts or relevant consumer dispute resolution forums.

17. Severability

If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

18. Modifications and Publication

Würth South Africa may update these warranty terms from time to time. The version applicable to a product is the version in effect at the time of purchase, unless a later version is expressly applied in writing.

Annex A – Practical Examples (Non Exhaustive)

Covered (manufacturing defects):

  • Drill intermittently cuts out at low load in first month; diagnostic confirms bad solder joint with no contamination.
  • Trigger fails early life due to factory assembly issue; no misuse/impact evidence.
  • Housing brittleness causing non impact cracking; material defect found.
  • Charger DOA on first use; reported within 7 days → immediate swap under DOA remedy.

Not covered (typical rejection reasons):

  • Continuous heavy duty usage beyond rating → thermal damage consistent with overload.
  • Workshop metal dust found on PCB → contamination excludes coverage.
  • Drop from height → cracked housing with visible impact marks.
  • Incorrect bit binds and stalls motor → accessory misuse causing stress damage.
  • Tool opened by third party → unauthorised repair voids warranty.
  • Battery shows runtime reduction after many cycles → normal ageing.
